As a 17 year member of ABATE of Indiana I am very disappointed in the obvious lack of attention that the leaders and lobbyist of this organization had regarding the passing of an increase in the fees that motorcyclists in this state are required to pay. I read in utter amazement the letter by Jay Jackson published in the Hoosier Motorcyclist stating that this bill had been passed. He seemed to blame us the membership for this atrocity. I blame him and the lobbyist that we pay to watch out for our freedoms. They went to bed on Friday and woke up on Monday to find that this had happened!!!! What were they doing all weekend? Celebrating with the governor? Maybe riding with him across the state? It seems that we are always encouraged to back this man in what he does and only because he rides a motorcycle? I certainly see no other reason because he has not done anything else to help the citizens of this state. Daniels has said from the very beginning of his term that he would not veto a bill from the feds and that concerns me. The feds are certainly not a group of people that I would trust they like him are out for themselves and what they can gain at our expense. I know that this legislation is from our illustrious state legislators but it seems that he had an excuse for letting it pass his desk. He has no line veto!!!! Is that a good enough excuse- evidently because we were told that is why it happened? Maybe ABATE should not have allowed this to get to the point of even being considered to be passed. The people who are supposed to be watching out for this type of action should have been at the statehouse until the last bill was written, passed, or vetoed. That is their job so it was the weekend do your job! Why did this happen? I don’t want to be told it was our fault- the members of this organization. We write letters, we raise money, and we participate in ABATE and this is what we get in return? Something needs to be done. I don’t know where it needs to start but the fact that this happened is inexcusable. Perhaps the leaders of this organization need to get their priorities straight. It seems as though they have gone in the same direction as the very people we pay them to watch out for so our freedoms will not be taken away anymore than they already have been.
